Abstract (EN)

Kutadgu Bilig is the first literary work written by the Turks who accepted Islam. This thesis is a linguistic study on Kutadgu Bilig. The vocabulary used in this work, written by Yusuf Has Hacip in Karahanli Turkish, is examined in term of frequency of usage. Letter, syllable and word frequencies are analyzed in various ways based on Text I, Translation II and Index III, published by Reşit Rahmeti ARAT, who made pioneering and valuable studies on the work. The thesis consists of three main sections. The first section introduces the work and provides information about poetry, the poet and the relevant era. In the second chapter, the methodology is explained, and a dictionary user manual is included. The third section provides a dictionary for the work with grammatical compressed index. Furthermore, this section lists the frequencies of the words in order and reverse order, letter and syllable frequencies, syllable and word type frequencies, noun and verb frequencies. Finally, under the title of findings, the data obtained from the analyses are evaluated, where as in the conclusion part, information is given about the overall study. We believe that this study will contribute to the literature on Kutadgu Bilig and will be a source for future studies to be done in the field of Turkish language and literature.
