Abstract (EN)

Since 2003, excavations in the ancient city of Laodikeia have revealed numerous structures and restoration efforts have been undertaken by Prof. Dr. Celal ŞİMŞEK University of Pamukkale. This study focuses on experiencing three significant structures in the ancient city through augmented reality technology, modeled based on archaeological data. These structures include the Septimius Severus Nymphaeum, Laodikeia Church, and Temple A. The Septimius Severus Nymphaeum is a fountain structure with a U-shaped plan, featuring a pool and a three-story facade, centrally located along Syria Street. Architectural blocks belonging to the fountain have been 3D documented using mobile lidar sensors, digitally assembled and placed in their possible locations using the anastylosis method to create a 3D model. Laodikeia Church is considered one of the most important churches and city mentioned in the Bible from the early Christian period. Its three-story architecture and remarkable window system stand out, and based on the data obtained from excavations, the exterior facade, window system, wall masonry, and roof tiles have been modeled in 3D. Temple A, built in the second half of the 2nd century AD for the cult of gods and the emperor, is one of the most significant structures on Syria Street. In this study, the Temple A's pediment and an ancient crane model have been 3D modeled for augmented reality. The structures covered in our study in Laodikeias have been revitalized in 3D based on archaeological data, and augmented reality solutions have been developed for visitors to experience using their mobile devices. This technology aims to provide a unique experience for visitors by allowing them to better understand the grandeur of the structures and to re-experience the ancient period.
