Examination of current teaching styles declared and used in high school physical education course

The purpose of this study is to compare the teaching styles that high school physical education and sports teachers prefer based on their statements in class, their value perceptions of these styles, and the teaching styles they use in their lessons based on the gender and teaching experience of the teachers. The participants of this study consisted of 30 physical education teachers, 10 women (x̅age= 41.07), 20 men (x̅age= 42.55) working in 25 different high school schools in Adana. The convenience sampling method was used to determine the teachers. The Personal Information Form, the Physical Education Teachers' Perceptions of Teaching Styles Instrument, and the Teaching Styles Determination Tool were used to collect data for this study. A 40-minute session of 30 physical education teachers was recorded using a video camera in order to reveal the teaching styles utilized by the teachers in their lessons. Mann-Whitney The U test was employed to analyze the data. The study's findings found that, while the use of teaching styles did not differ by gender, female teachers employed the Guided Discovery Style more than male teachers. The study reveals that the teaching styles used by teachers with 15 years or less experience and those with 16 years or more experience do not differ, but teachers with 16 years or more experience use the Convergent Discovery style more than teachers with 15 years or less experience. The study found no significant difference in the amount of time physical education teachers dedicate to administrative tasks based on gender or teaching experience, but found that administrative activities constituted a significant portion of their instructional time.
