An analysis on the sufficiency of tangible cultural heritages in high schools’ curriculum

Since the first moment when people gathered together for certain purposes and created societies, their basic life styles emerged and they have left cultural traces of them. The main way for today’s young generations to assimilate, adopt and protect the culture left behind their ancestors is to know it. So, it is quite important to introduce our culture which is inherited from a history of thousands of years. Because, the most important thing which differs societies from one another is, ‘culture’ which includes everything which is specific to it and ‘tangible cultural heritage’ which is inherited from that culture. In this research, whether the tangible cultural heritages are given or not in the curriculum of high schools via course books is studied using document analysis method. At the end of study, it is found that “tangible cultural heritages” aren’t given enough. And in many books it is seen that; “the tangible cultural heritages” are presented in sentences or via visuals without introducing. It is offered that more tangible cultural heritages should be presented to get close to the first two aims of high schools which are described as “to give a common culture and improve cultural qualifications.”
