Abstract (EN)

The relations between Turks and Armenians are important in terms oftheir effects on the present. Because, the events a country lives with other countriesclosely concerns the education of that country ,especially history teaching, like allother institutions. That these events influence the course books is an another truth. Itis impossible that the course ?History of Turkish Republic? and its books concerningthe regime directly are not influenced by these improvements. The topic on therelations between Turks and Armenians has been also effected.Armenian problem started with the provocation of the nations like Russiaand England especially after the mids of the 19th century. This problem for TurkishRepublic came to an end with the pacts of Lozan and Gümrü. However, Armenianproblem has been updated again with external factors in the year of 1965 , afterabout a century from the beginning of these events. After this date, these relations gotgradually tensed .These tense relations between these two societies have excessivelyeffected the course books.Until 1970s Armenian events became international, thatmatter didn?t take part in course books too much.As a result of the events and assassinations aimed at Turkish diplomats , the intensityof the topic increased. In this study prepared to determine this interaction, the course books?History? and ?History of Turkish Republic? studied at high schools between 1930-2000 have been examined and the scope of Turk-Armenian relations in these bookshave been analyzed. In the study, initially General History of Armenians and the generalconditions of Turk-Armenain relations , secondly information about history teachingand its course books were presented, and then the reflections of these relations on thecourse books have been studied. General references concerning this subject havebeen scanned and read and necessary notes have been taken; curriculum has beenfound from Tebliğler Dergisi ,and the parts related to the topic have been determinedby examining all the History of Turkish Republic course book one by one to makethe research. As the topic intensively examined in Tarih 3 for high schools , four ofthese books belonging to the years after1980s have been chosen as samples andstudied. At the end of the research, it has been determined that the process of therelations between Turks and Armenians and the problems faced in both countries hadreflected on the course books of ?History?, ?History of Turkish Republic?,?Revolution History of Turkish Republic ?, ?Kemalism?. However, it is difficult tosay that this reflection was examined in a scientific manner in the course books.Authors have used similar expressions, but they have given scarcely place to thesupportive components in the course books.Key Words: Turk-Armenian Relations, History Teaching, Course Book, The Law ofTehcir
