Abstract (EN)

In this study, it has been investigated whether high school students in Uşak province carry drop out risk between 2017-2018. The universe of the study consists of 17.209 high school students in Uşak province and its districts and the sample consists of 725 high school students. The School Experiences Scale developed by Yorğun in 2014 was applied to measure students' dropout risk. The data obtained were evaluated through SPSS 17.0. By descriptive statistics the percentage of the risk for the variables in the sub-problems of the study are measured, and then according to the ANOVA test data, whether these variables carry a significant difference in the context of each subscale in the School Experiences Scale are found and by Tukey HSD test for which groups the difference is significant is shown. As a result of the analysis, the overall risk average was found as 2.60. In general, students do not carry a high level of school drop-out risk, but they have a medium level risk in terms of grade level (12th grade) school type (Anatolian Vocational High School) and parent education level variables, in the context of "Self-Withdrawal" subscale the most. One of the other variables of the study, the risk for the gender variable was found to be at moderate risk and is in the subscale of "Attitudes of the Peer Group to School" among male students. The effect of parental education level variable on dropout risk was found to be at the highest level in "Self- Withdrawal " dimension. It is determined that there is a moderate risk among the students whose fathers' are primary school drop outs and whose mothers' education level are primary school . According to the grade variable, moderate risk was determined in six of the seven subscales of the so-called scale. It was seen that the risk was at a highest level among students with a grade average of 0-49 and it was in the "Attitudes of Peer Group to School" subscale. Moderate risk was found in six of the seven subscales in students with excused-absence of 10 days or more for the absenteeism variable. Similarly, for students with an unexcused-absence of 15 days or more, moderate risk was found in all subscales of the so-called scale. At the end of the research, the conclusions in consistent with some other research findings in the literature are reached. Among the other variables, it is found that the factors increasing drop out risk the most are, absenteeism, low academic success, having parents with low educational level and having single parents.
