Abstract (EN)

In recent years, the use of wireless networks and the internet has drastically increased caused to a great extend by the upward spiral of using multimedia applications. Their demands for high throughput and high data rates present new challanges to the network providers and network operators. Even though the LTE/ LTE-A standards have been introduced by the 3GPP with the aim of solving these challanges, the need for more effective and adequate resource allocation mechanisms and procedures still remain. In this sense the role of the packet scheduler located in the MAC layer of the eNodeB is of upmost importance. In this thesis, the most common used scheduling algorithms "RR" "AMT" and "B-CQI" have been investigated, performance evaluations have been analyzed and their deficiencies have been determined. Based on this, a new uplink resource allocation algorithm is designed to ensure that the available resources in the system are allocated fairly among users while keeping users throughput high. A new metric called "user ratio" has been introduced to observe the trade-off between the fairness and the user throughput from user perspective. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared to the algorithms that exists in the literature in terms of the user ratio metric. The results show that the proposed algorithm allocates resources fairly among users while allowing the users have high throughput.
