Abstract (EN)

Landscape restoration refers to the process of planning, designing, implementing, and managing the rehabilitation of landscape areas that have been damaged or degraded due to natural disasters or human activities, in accordance with economic, environmental, and social requirements. It aims to reclaim and conserve these areas for various purposes, a process known as reclamation. The primary goal of landscape restoration efforts in mining quarries is to restore and improve the disrupted ecosystem. Additionally, it targets the redevelopment of these altered areas for different uses. This process is crucial for restoring environmental balance and making the areas economically and socially sustainable. Therefore, in the landscape restoration process of mining quarries, careful consideration of which usage options to implement and prioritizing these options is of paramount importance. Selecting and prioritizing the correct usage options not only ensures successful ecosystem rehabilitation but also plays a critical role in the future sustainability and multifaceted utilization of the area. This study is based on a closed quarry operation model of a zinc-lead mining site that has ceased operations. The research aims to select various usage alternatives, prioritize these alternatives, and determine their suitability for areas disrupted by mining activities. Specifically, the study focuses on a former open-pit mining area within the boundaries of Hakkari. It first identifies the cultural and natural characteristics of the area, establishes the most suitable evaluation criteria for the options to be used, and subsequently details these criteria into relevant subcategories. The purpose of the study is to propose solutions for the ecological rehabilitation of areas disturbed by open-pit mining operations in Hakkari, using appropriate landscape restoration techniques. Within the scope of the research, natural and cultural factors related to the area were examined, and based on this data, a model for rehabilitation and re-vegetation was developed.
