Does misophonia affect the clinical presentation and prognosis in major depressive disorder?

Aim: The aim of this study is to examine whether the presence of misophonia has an effect on depression severity, phenomenology and prognosis in patients with major depressive disorder. Method: The study was conducted with 117 patients diagnosed with "Major depressive disorder" who applied to Ankara City Hospital Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic and signed the informed consent form by agreeing to participate in the study. In the study, 41 patients with misophonia and 76 patients without misophonia were diagnosed with first episode depressive disorder. At the 6th week follow-up, 29 depressed patients with misophonia and 32 depressed patients without misophonia were evaluated. Participants were evaluated with scales at initial presentation and at follow-up Results: While there was no significant difference in sociodemographic data between depressed patients with and without misophonia in the study; There was a significant difference between the two groups in the rates of previous depression and treatment during that period. Beck depression scale scores, CUDOS anxiety, quality of life, depression subscale scores and CAPE Positive psychotic symptoms subscale scores were significantly higher in depressed patients with misophonia. When the two groups were compared in terms of treatment responses, treatment responses and remission rates were significantly lower in those with misophonia, but the difference was not statistically significant. In addition, positive psychotic symptom subscale scores decreased statistically significantly in the misophonia group with antidepressant treatment. Conclusion: This study revealed that depression is more severe in patients with misophonia, there are accompanying anxiety and positive psychotic features, and treatment responses and remission rates are low.
