A meta-analysis on the use of technology in teaching mathematics

The use of technology is gaining importance in education as well as in many areas in our country and in the world. Studies on the use of technology in mathematics education are increasing, and there are many independent studies in the literature that have yielded different results. The purpose of meta-analysis is to make general comments by bringing together different studies. In this study, theses and articles written on the use of technology in mathematics education between the years 2000-2020 were examined. The effects of use of technology on students' mathematics achievement and their feelings and thoughts about mathematics were investigated. A total of 45 studies that included in this study were analyzed via meta-analysis method. This research helps us to see the effect size of recent research on use of technology in teaching and learning mathematics. As a result of the research, the effect size of the use of technology in mathematics education on student achievement was found to be 0.678. This value shows that the use of technology affects students' mathematics achievement positively and moderately. The effect size of the use of technology in mathematics education on students' emotions and thoughts was found to be 0.466. The calculated average effect size shows that the use of technology in mathematics education has a positive and low effect on students' feelings and thoughts about mathematics.
