Measuring and analysing the impact of the working-age male population growth on the unemployment rate in Iraq from (1992 to 2023)

Iraq faces many challenges related to its growing population, especially among working-age males. This is accompanied by a rise or fall in economic indicators. Statistics show a significant increase for this specific group, although some of these indicators have a negative and some a positive impact on economic growth. Therefore, studying unemployment rates is an important topic that changes periodically and appears annually and affects specific groups that represent the most important segment of society: working-age males. The unemployment rate is used to measure the percentage of those who do not work actively seeking work compared to the total labour force. This indicator reflects Economic potential to provide sufficient job opportunities for the population and is therefore an important tool for assessing a country's economic situation. This study the impact of the increasing number of males in the Republic of Iraq within the age group (15-64) on the unemployment rate and its percentage for the years between 1994 and 2023 using data analysis, measurement, and testing through statistical programs by measuring the correlation between variables and the positivity and negativity of that relationship. The data of the World Bank Group was used, as well as part of the data of the Central Statistical Organisation in Iraq. This data represents the growth rate over (30) years for the targeted study so that a clear picture of the population and growth rates appears, ensuring that they are tested and analysed, their relationship with unemployment rates is found, and solutions and future predictions for that relationship are found. The theoretical aspect included a set of theories and ideas that present the subject of the study and the vision of scientists regarding the increase in population numbers and its impact on economic growth, as some explained that it is an economic problem resulting from the increase in population numbers without controls, while others see it as an economic wealth that requires sound management of these resources, and some see it as a problem related to class and capitalism. These opinions were included in the research, and the theoretical aspects that support the practical aspect were taken into consideration, meaning that the problems of the theoretical aspect apply to the subject of the study and the target society in Iraq. The practical aspect included the use of the quantitative approach in the study and focusing on collecting and analysing numerical and statistical data. The aim of this is to test hypotheses and determine the relationships between variables using statistical tools and methods, as well as analyse annual changes in growth rates and unemployment rates by studying the tables provided and extracting the average growth rate and comparing the results with other years and predicting the annual increase in population and unemployment rates in the future. The Excel program was used to find the average annual growth rate and apply mathematical calculations, as well as the SPSS program to find measures of central tendency, as well as the regression equation and Pearson's correlation. A coefficient used to determine the strength and direction of the linear relationship between two variables, where the relationship is directly proportional between the two variables, i.e., when the number of males of working age increases, the unemployment rate increases.
