Abstract (EN)

The second main source of religion after the Qur'an is the Sunnah. Some criteria have been adopted since the period of the Companions for the determination of belonging to the Prophet of the narrations called hadith, which are described as oral Sunnah. Over time, these rules were developed and formed the important subjects of the science of hadith. Beginning from the 8th century (AD) when religious sciences began to be collected, in addition to the works on the hadith, the first cores of encyclopedic works began to appear in the Islamic world. With the spread of encyclopedias in the world, it has been seen that such studies on the religion of Islam have increased. Today, the tradition of applying to encyclopedias, which is one of the most functional ways of reaching collective knowledge, as in other sciences, is also applicable for the science of hadith. It is important to evaluate and compare the common articles of the works of "National Education Islamic Encyclopedia" and "Türkiye Diyanet Foundation's Encyclopedia of Islam", which are two important encyclopedic works of the recent period, on hadith, in order to reach healthy information. On the other hand, NIE was created on the basis of "Encyclopaedia of Islam" prepared by orientalists, while DEI is a work originally copyrighted by Muslim scholars. In this respect, in the context of hadith articles, the perspectives of non-Muslim western writers on the one hand and Muslim authors on the other hand on the same issues will be examined. In both encyclopedias, a total of 322 items were identified, of which150 directly and 172 indirectly are about the science of hadith. Within the framework of the determined criteria, only 22 of them were evaluated and compared, 13 of which were related to hadith methodology and 9 of them were related to personal names.
