Investigating the dosimetric properties of LiF:Mg,Ti (TLD-100) used in medicine

In this study, the thermoluminescence properties of LiF:Mg,Ti (TLD-100) which is commonly used in medicine as a dosimetric material were investigated. In order to analyse the TL properties of LiF:Mg,Ti (TLD-100), the photons and the electrons with different energies were examined by using linear accelerator and 60Co source. Firstly, LiF:Mg,Ti (TLD-100) dosimeters were calibrated due to calibration factor calculations (CF). Following the calibration studies, the dose and the energy response of the dosimeters were analysed for the purpose of identifying dosimetric properties. The absorbed doses sourced by electron beams in LINAC with different energies were measured by using the ion chamber and TLDs and the results were compared. We have seen that TLD-100 samples have a linear dose response region (f(D)=1) between 0.25 Gy and 2.5 Gy. In the present work, energy response measurements to 2 Gy absorbed dose have been performed for 60Co gamma rays and 6 MV and 18 MV x-rays of the VARIAN LINAC. The results of 6 MV and 18 MV photons are in fairly good agreement with each other than the ones from 1.25 MeV 60Co gamma ray source. Therefore, it was found out that TLD-100 dosimeters are energy dependent. The comparison of TLD and ion chamber measurements was investigated that the results of the two different techniques are in good agreement with radiation dose detections.
