Urban experiences of Syrians within the framework of the concept of space: The case of Terzialiler neighborhood of Muğla/Ortaca district

Space has a dynamic structure and for the individual, space is of central importance both structurally and socially. Urban experiences, which are reinforced in direct proportion with the time spent in the urban space, facilitate the social, economic, cultural, political, political and societal interaction of the individual and thus their integration into the space. As a result of the migration movement, immigrants who are strangers to the new place gain experience in various places and support both their identity formation processes and their need for belonging. It is seen that the migration of Syrians to Turkey is effective in the change, transformation and reproduction of the space. As a result of the Syrian migration to Turkey, immigrants and the host society live together and interact in various places. The spatial preferences of Syrians, the effect of space on perception processes, and with whom the relations established in the urban space are mostly established are of great importance in understanding the urban experiences of the Syrians. It is also very important whether the spatial preferences and urban experiences of the Turks are affected after the Syrian migration. In this study, which aims to explain the urban experiences of Syrians, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 Syrians and 6 Turks living in Terzialiler neighborhood of Ortaca district. This thesis, which is a qualitative study, has been prepared with a phenomenological approach. As a result of the study, it was seen that while the Syrians living in Terzialiler neighborhood preferred domestic life to realize their urban experiences, they performed their domestic activities with their fellow countrymen, relatives and family members.
