Abstract (EN)
Purpose: The aim is to study; US BI-RADS for differentiate malign/benign in lesions of patients who have breast lesions and to whom we applied tru-cut biopsy and descriptive ultrasonographic findings used in this BI-RADS terminology and positive/negative predictive value of BI-RADS categories. Materials and methods: The patients who applied to Dicle University faculty of medicine in invasive department in 2012-2013 and then whom have been found lesion in ultrasonography and to whom biopsy was performed, included in the study. Biopsy was performed to all patients with ultrasonographic guidence in department of radiology. Biopsy was performed by freehand tecnique using lineer prob with 18G /15 cm semiautomatic biopsy needles in Toshiba Aplio XG ultrasound machines. Breast lesions of 397 cases, from 14-81 age group to whom biopsy was performed, were categorised according to BI-RADS terminology by sonography results were controlled retrospectively. Radiologic findings and biopsy results were compared with statistical data. For all parameters except age parameter ; percentage and numbers were given by descriptive statistic ,as for age parameter ; average and standard deviation were given. Also chi-square analysis was used for the analysis of relation between all parameters and histopathologic result which was accepted as final result. Results: Of 414 lesions which was taken from tru-cut biopsy performed 397 patients; 106(%25,6) malign and 308(%74,4) benign were diagnosed histopathologic. BI-RADS categories were 3 in 246, BI-RADS IV in 93 and BI-RADS in 75 of all 414 lesions and PPV (positive predictive value) was calculated for every category.PPV was calculated % 0,8 for BI-RADS III , %35,5 for BI-RADS IV and % 94,7 for BI-RADS V. Conclusion: In conclusion to categorise lesions seen on ultrasonography according to BI-RADS criteria helps to predict malign lesions. Our results support the need for biopsy in BI-RADS IV and BI-RADS V. BI-RADS III lession has high benignity and short time follow up will decrease benign biopsies. Key words: Ultrasonography, mammography, BI-RADS, breast, biopsy.
