Investi̇gation of isthmin-1 immunereactivity in stomach adenocarcinomas

Stomach cancer is a common cancer all over the world, causing nearly one million new cases every year and 650,000 deaths per year, and is the fourth most common cancer in the world. Uncovering different new molecular targets and cancer etiology in cancer; Early diagnosis may contribute to reducing mortality, predicting prognosis and even developing new treatment strategies. Therefore, this study was aimed to be a study examining the relationship between Isthmin-1 and stomach cancer. In this study, the activity of Isthmin-1 was investigated in patients diagnosed with gastric cancer and patients with intestinal metaplasia. The study included 20 controls, 20 patients diagnosed with intestinal metaplasia and 60 patients diagnosed with 'Stomach Adenocarcinoma' (20 patients grade I, 20 patients grade II and 20 patients grade III), who were diagnosed between 2015 and 2023 in the Pathology Department Laboratory of Fırat University Hospital. Age, pathological TNM stage, HDL, LDL, triglyceride, height, weight, BMI and isthmin-1 levels in tumor tissues were investigated and included in the study. Data were obtained by retrospective review of electronic files registered in the hospital database. Statistical analyzes were recorded in SPSS 21 program. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. As a result, it is suggested that Isthmin -1 is distributed to different body parts and plays a critical role in many biological processes as a newly identified adipokine. However, the physiological function of Isthmin-1 remains to be fully elucidated and there are still some challenges to be resolved in future research. In our study, as a result of examining the immunohistochemical staining performed to determine Isthmin-1 immunoreactivity with light microscopy; It was found to be similar in the control group and intestinal metaplasia groups, and no statistically significant difference was observed between them (p = 0.998).
