Abstract (EN)

Value is a whole mix of abstract, tangible, positive or negative components that are accepted by the entire community and have an impact on how the society functions and progresses. As time passes, these components are passed down to future generations. These factors are transmitted first within the home and then at school. It is believed that appropriate and organized social value education provided in school is far more effective than instruction provided by a person's family or immediate group. It is the goal of the social studies curriculum in schools to develop citizens who understand national, moral, cultural, and ethical values, are aware of their rights and obligations, have democratic knowledge and abilities, and advanced scientific thinking, respectful of human rights, patriots who can collaborate while also acknowledging the Republic of Turkey as a secular, democratic, and autonomous constitutional state It is believed that teaching literary works such as novels, historical novels, stories, memoirs, travel writings, anecdotes, and poetry while studying the themes of the national struggle would increase students' interest in the lesson and contribute to the required information, skills, and values in social studies courses. The purpose of the research in this context is to establish the level of existence of these values that are contained in the Social Studies Curriculum and the values of that period within books about the national fight. The books concerning national struggle serve as the research's population. The research samples were determined as "Ateşten Gömlek," "Halas," "Yaban," "Üç İstanbul," "Esir Şehrin insanları," "Kalpaklar," "Küçük Ağa," "Sahnenin dışındakiler," "Yüzbaşı Selahattin'in Romanı," and "Şu Çılgn Türkler" with the guidance of four professors who are specialists in the field. Sentences and expressions connected to the principles of justice, family unity, independence, peace, scientificity, diligence, solidarity, awareness, honesty, equality, respect, freedom, responsibility, compassion, and patriotism were determined in the books chosen as examples. The results of the document analysis technique were examined using the content analysis method, and the frequency and percentages of values were displayed in charts. When the research's findings were analyzed, 5243 values in all were discovered in the novels. With 1351 values, "Şu Çılgın Türkler" was the novel with the greatest value. Yaban, which had 126 values, was the novel with the lowest value. Patriotism was the value that received the greatest attention (20.71%). Family unity, independence, hard work, unity, sensitivity, honesty, equality, freedom, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism, and generosity are among the values represented in these 10 works. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that books about national struggle offer beneficial and appropriate material for the development of moral principles.
