Investigation of architecture and ceramics relations

The research is investigating a new aspect in interdisciplinary area between pottery and architecture. Although ceramic materials are used in architecture in many ways, but the research is concentrated on the construction abilities of clays and ceramic materials. These construction features are used in forming any article in ceramics and pottery. When this ceramic article is a house or a structure in the house's size the same mechanical, chemical and thermal proprieties are considered. Building with earth is one of the oldest and most common braches in architecture. As well as these buildings can afford the earthquakes, winds, fire and air pollutions but water such as heavy rains and snow is the most destructive incident for them. Because of that, it can turn to a ceramic article by firing and resist the water. There are almost 30 ceramic houses have been created all over the world. Nader Khalili who was the first and then Ray Meeker was the most developer of this technique and came up with important results of it. On the other hand, there is no any written reference in the Turkish language and generally very few about ceramic houses in the English ones. It is cheap to build with ceramics, also is ideal for do-it-yourself construction with some technical knowledge and some experience. Beside its healthiness and stability it has a wide range of artistic aspects which makes the harmony of form and function results a friendly place to live in.
