Abstract (EN)

In this study, the effect of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) on the lipids in the circulation and the oxidative damage on the nuclear level of the cells were the topics of interest. Vein blood from 120 people was collected for this study, 40 of which were used as the control group while the other 80 were diagnosed with T2DM disease. To avoid the effect of weight on the circulatory lipids, patients and control were chosen in approximately matched body mass index values. The results have shown a significant increase in the levels of fasting blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin, insulin, and HOMA-IR as sugar profile parameters, and they indicated poor glycemic control in patients. Moreover, 8- hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) was used as a biomarker for DNA oxidative damage. The level of 8-OHdG was increased significantly in the serum of T2DM patients compared to the control, which indicated significant oxidative damage in the DNA of T2DM patients. Moreover, HOMA-IR and 8-OHdG were correlated positively in T2DM patients, this shows a relationship between insulin resistance and DNA oxidative damage.
