Abstract (EN)
Introduction and Aim: In our study, it was aimed to determine the effectiveness of kinesio taping and dry needling methods, which are inexpensive and easy to apply, in patients with myofascial pain syndrome in the maxillofacial region and to evaluate their effects on quality of life. Material and Methods: 46 patients who applied to oral, dental and maxillofacial surgery with the complaints of pain in the jaw, face and chewing muscles, limitation in mouth opening or unknown pain in the face area and diagnosed with myofascial pain as a result of clinical evaluation were included in the study. Results: As a result of the study, it was observed that VAS values decreased depending on time in the groups that underwent kinesiology taping, dry needling and false dry needling. As a result of the study, it was determined that the change in VAS values between the 1st day and the 3rd month after the treatment was significant. In the current study, it was observed that the changes in physical function, physical role difficulty, emotional role difficulty, social functionality and pain levels were significant in the 1st day and 3rd month after the treatment in the kinesiology taping group. When the average scores obtained from the SF-36 quality of life scale after treatment in the dry needling group were examined, it was generally observed that the 1st day-3 after treatment. It was observed that the mean scores of physical function, physical role difficulty, emotional role difficulty and mental health increased gradually between 6 months and 18 months, and the pain level increased until the 3rd week and decreased in the following weeks. When the mean scores obtained from the SF-36 quality of life scale after the treatment in the group who underwent false dry needling were examined, it was generally observed that the mean scores of physical function, physical role difficulty, emotional role difficulty and mental health increased gradually between the 1st day and 3rd month after the treatment, and the pain level decreased. It was observed that it increased until the 3rd week and decreased in the following weeks. It was observed that the change in depression levels on the 1st day and 3rd month after the treatment was significant in all three groups. In our study, it was observed that the physical function level of the group who underwent kinesiology taping and dry needling was significantly higher at the 3rd week after the treatment. Again, as a result of the study, it was observed that the level of social functionality at the 3rd month after the treatment was higher than kinesiology taping and lower than dry needling in the group who underwent false dry needling. The difference in the 3rd month post-treatment general health perception was found to be between the dry needling group and the kinesiology taping and false dry needling group, and the 3rd month post-treatment general health perception was significantly lower in the dry needling group compared to the kinesiology taping and false dry needling group. seen. As a result of the present study, a difference was found between the groups in the level of depression at the 3rd week and 3rd month after treatment, and the difference was between the kinesiology taping group and the dry needling and false dry needling group, and the 3rd week and 3rd week post-treatment difference in the kinesiology taping group. It was observed that the depression level at the third month was significantly higher than the other groups. In the study, it was also found that mouth opening after treatment increased significantly in all three groups compared to pre-treatment, however, there was no significant difference between groups in terms of post-treatment mouth opening values. Conclusion: As a result of the study, it was seen that kinesio taping is a more effective method in reducing the level of depression compared to dry needling and pseudo dry needling. At the same time, it was observed that kinesio taping and dry needling provided a significant improvement in physical function. Keywords: Myofascial Pain Syndrome, Kinesiology Taping, Dry Needling.
