Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study was to compare the effects of Multi-Gravitational Suspension Based Exercises (M-Gravity) and equipment-based pilates exercises on postural control, trunk stabilization, spinal mobility and endurance in sedentary individuals. A total of 60 individuals between the ages of 18-45 were included in the study. 30 sedentary individuals (27 females, 3 males) who applied to a private sports center for M-Gravity exercises were included in the M-Gravity exercise group, and 30 sedentary individuals (26 females, 4 males) who applied for equipment-based pilates exercises were included in the equipment-based pilates exercise group. The physical activity levels of the individuals were determined with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire - Short Form (IPAQ - SF). Sociodemographic characteristics of the individuals were recorded. In both groups, the exercises were performed by a specialist trainer, with 8 sessions per month, twice a week, with a session duration of 60 minutes. Postural control of both groups was evaluated with Y-Balance Test, spinal mobility with Trunk Lateral Flexion Assessment Test and Modified Schober Test, trunk flexor endurance was evaluated statically with Trunk Flexor Endurance Test and dynamically with Sit-up Test. Deep trunk stabilizer muscle strength was evaluated with a stabilizing pressure biofeedback device (Chattanooga Stabilizer), and stabilization strength findings were recorded as the change in pressure (mmHg) and the time (sec) they were able to maintain stabilization. Two evaluations were made before the exercise and at the end of 8 sessions. As a result of the study, all test results after exercise showed a statistically significant positive improvement in both exercise groups (p<0.05). It was found that the increase in spinal mobility in the M-Gravity exercise group was higher than in the equipment-based pilates exercise group (p=0.006). Trunk stabilization increased more in the equipment-based pilates exercise group than in the M-Gravity exercise group (p=0.040). In conclusion, in this study, it was concluded that 8 sessions of M-Gravity and equipment-based pilates exercise program may have positive effects on postural control, trunk stabilization, spinal mobility and endurance in sedentary individuals; In line with the physical needs of individuals, we think that M-Gravity exercises for increasing spinal mobility and equipment-based pilates exercises for increasing trunk stabilization can be preferred more.
