Collections of biographies of saints are among the important written resources of Turkish-Islamic literature. Therefore, collections of biographies of saints are the fundamental books that those who study collections of biographies of saints, lives of saints and history of sufi culture, especially the prose of Divan Literature, will refer to. In this search, the book called Tezkire-i Evliyâ-i Bağdâd (the Collection of the Biographies of Saints of Baghdad) written by Murtazâ Efendi is studied comparatively with transcriptions. Thirty-seven copies of Tezkire-i Evliyâ-i Bağdâd were determined; five copies, namely Topkapı Palace Museum R.1501, Kılıç Ali Paşa 784, Selim Ağa 779, Nadir Eserler 2512, Bağdatlı Vehbi Efendi 1259, were transcribed and the copies were compared. In this study, information is given about collections of biographies andcollections of biographies of saints; in addition, Murtazâ Efendi's biography, works and the resources he referred to are dealt with. His work is compared to the translation of Attar's collection of biographies and Sinan Paşa's Collection of Biographies of Saints. In this study, information about the lives and anecdotes of saints, and sufism is given. The verses of the Qur'an, Arabic and Persian poems and texts in the book are translated. In addition, the prosody of the Turkish and Persian poems are shown. In conclusion, I tried to determine the place and importance of "Tezkire-i Evliyâ-i Bağdâd" amongcollections of biographies of saints and to show its value in terms of Turkish-Islamic culture.
