Abstract (EN)
In postmodern period, rising from the ruins of modern era, significant changes have occurred in many areas ranging from production to consumption, from the form of society to the construction of the individual. We can describe postmodern era's individual as self-oriented, selfish, spiritual, seeking balance, and so on. Changes emerging in the individual in the postmodern period brought along studies on the construction of postmodern individual. In this thesis, which deals with the changes from modern to postmodern, postmodern period is associated with Stuart Hall's view of "new times". Study aims to reveal how the characters constructed in Turkish series in Netflix original content are shaped around postmodern identity and how they reflect today's people with the narrative presented. Universe of the study consists of digital platforms and focuses on Netflix, the first international digital platform, broadcasting in Türkiye. We selected the sample in accordance with the purpose of the study. In this context, the analysis includes the first season episodes of the series "Hakan: Muhafız", "Atiye", "Zeytin Ağacı" and "Uysallar". Semiotic analysis was applied to the series with a focus on Roland Barthes' ideas. In addition, Geert Hofstede's cultural dimension theory and Levi Strauss' binary oppositions were utilized. John Fiske's advanced and restricted codes were also mentioned. As a result of the analysis, the assumption that the characters constructed in the Turkish series in Netflix original content are constructed in the context of postmodern identity and depict today's people in this way has been confirmed.
