Abstract (EN)

Aim of this study is to develop a new method in basic ney training; that could be applied to new beginner students. As such, this thesis presents a trainer's guide for ney training; designed on the basis of student differences in learning process. Therefore the method is applicable to everyone who intends to learn ney. Different than other learning methods, training method is possessed only by the trainer. Student exercises are sequenced; and are given as homework exercises as a part of the training method. Method consists of sixteen lessons. Theoretical music knowledge is taught among lessons one, two, three, four and sixteen. In lesson one; information about structure of ney, technique of sound making, first sound exercises, holding, and upcoming finger exercises are mentioned. Practical study consists of sound making among lesson one. Lesson two consists of the sound making exercises from the back hole of ney. Homework is given to reinforce the played sounds. In lesson three, holding and some other sounds are studied. After lesson four, rhythmic musical exercises with piano starts. At the end of lesson four, musical note transposition homework is given. Studies among lesson five and eleven increases the students' finger mastery on ney. Among lesson eleven and sixteen, specially chosen musical pieces are studied. Before some pieces, special training exercies are given for hard sounds. Students complete the basic ney training at the end of lesson sixteen. Vibrato and other similar techniques that shape the ney playing attitude are not covered among the basic training; as those techniques are a part of the further ney training. Recommended musical pieces for further exercising are placed in the results and discussion section. Musical notes for music pieces with piano are in appendix. Those notes are written for mansur ney chord and needs transposition if they will be played with different ney chords. Among 1997-98 academic years, secondary school preparatory class ney training applied by neyzen (ney player) Salih Bilgin in Istanbul Technic University Turkish Music Conservatory, are also placed in appendix with the aim of introducing classic ney training.
