Abstract (EN)

The scope of this study is to investigate the failure load, failure mode and bearing strength in a glass epoxy laminated composite plate carried out by a bolt impacted by a preload and washer on a circular hole. During experiment processes without a preload moment the hole of the plate exposed to a traction force by a rigid pin. Parametric studies were carried out by experiments to obtain the effects of joint geometry and preload moment on the failure load and failure mode. The preload moment, end distance to diameter ratio and width to diameter ratio are chosen from 0, 2.5 and 5 Nm, from 1 to 5 and from 2 to 5, respectively. In addition, 4 different laminated composite plates were also investigated as changing of orientation angle. The failure analysis was carried out both numerically and experimentally. Additionally, mechanical properties of laminated composite material are measured using standard test methods. According to results of present study, it was examined that with increasing of M, E over D, W over D the bearing strength increases; and when M 0, 2.5 and 5 Nm, E over D 2, 3, 4, 5 and W over D 5 full bearing mode were occurred. Meanwhile E over D is equal to 1 the failure mode was constantly as shear-out mode for all parameters. Numerical study was performed using LUSAS finite element code. Maximum failure load was calculated with non-linear analysis and using Hashin failure criteria. When it was done a comparison between numerical and experimental results, a good agreement was observed. Keywords: Laminated composite plate, glass-epoxy, failure strength, failure mode, preload
