The relationship between arterial stiffness and hba1c in non-diabetic stage 2-3-4 chronical kidney disease patients

Abstract (EN)

Cardiovascular events,which are more often after the age of 60, are important causes of morbidity and mortality.The morbidity and mortality rate of the patients who have chronical kidneydisease has increased because of the cardiovascular reasons. Arterial stiffness is a value that is measured as pulse wave velocity between the carotid and femoral arteries and this value is assumed as a predictor of the cardiovascular events. By comparison with normal cases, the patients who have chronical kidney disease are prone to increased arterial stiffness and this condition attributes to the cardiovascular mortality.The patients who have chronical kidney disease and also disregulated blood sugar have definitely increased atherosclerosis and arterial stiffness.But the relationship between normal HbA1c values and arterial stiffness is unclear among the people who have chronical kidney disease but no DM. In our study,we aimed to detect the relationship between the HbA1c value and pulse wave velocity value among the cases who have stage 2-3-4 chronical kidney disease with no diabetes.In addition to this aim, we tried to investigate that whether the pulse wave velocity value is affected by age,gender,blood pressure,creatinin clearence,the chronical kidney disease duration,body mass index,the medications used,smoking,serum and urine electolyte values. In our study, we enrolled 30 males and 21 female patients who are on the nephrology outpatient service follow-up.Their serum and urine biochemical values are investigated.Their blood pressure and pulse wave velocity values are measured by applanation tonometry device(Sphygmocor Vx software AtCor Medical, Sydney, Australia).The provided values have been analyzed and subgroup comparisons have been made.As a result,we have detected an independent relationship between the pulse wave velocity value and sistolic blood pressure (p:0.0001) and HbA1c value (p:0.044).But we have detected no relationship between the pulse wave velocity value and age, body mass index,HT,peripheral or coronary arterial disease existence, the usage of antiaggegating,anti-hypertensive or antihyperlipidemic medication,smoking or the duration of chronical kidney disease.
