Abstract (EN)

Objective: Obesity is a condition that occurs as a result of excessive weight gain. Obesity is associated with many diseases such as increased risk of cardiovascular disease and increased diabetes. The frequency of obesity is increasing gradually and can cause many problems in both economic and social dimensions. ELABELA is a peptide hormone that has emerged recently and is known to affect food intake by binding to apelinergic receptors. Although many studies have been conducted on the etiopathogenesis of obesity, the underlying causes have not yet been determined. When we look at the literature, there is no study in obese individuals evaluating ELABELA levels. In this study, serum ELABELA levels were evaluated in obese and non-obese individuals and their relationship with obesity was examined. Methods: To our study; A total of 49 patients between the ages of 18-65 were included in the Yozgat Bozok University Medical Faculty internal medicine outpatient clinic. Participants were divided into obese individuals with BMI> 30 and non-obese healthy individuals with BMI <25 according to body mass index (BMI). Height, weight, gender, age, waist-hip circumference, blood pressure values of all participants were recorded and routine blood tests and serum ELABELA levels were measured. The obtained data were used for statistical comparisons between groups. Results: It was determined that there was no statistical difference between the patient and control groups in terms of mean age and gender distribution. When the patient group was compared with the control group, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in diastolic blood pressure (DBP), BUN, Creatinine Total Cholesterol, LDL-Cholesterol and Elabela levels. Body mass index (BMI), Waist/Hip ratio, Systolic blood pressure values (SBP), Glucose, AST, ALT, Triglyceride, Insulin, HOMA-IR levels were found to be significantly higher in the patient group than in the control group. HDL-Cholesterol was found to be significantly lower in the patient group compared to the control group. Conclusion: In this study, it was found that there was no relationship between Elabela levels and obesity. However, since the number of participants is very small, there is a need to investigate this issue with more comprehensive studies.
