Abstract (EN)

Objective: Obesity is the abnormal or excessive accumulation of fat in the body at a level that disrupts health. It is one of the ten most risky diseases. Mothers who are obese during pregnancy and at birth are at significant risk for antenatal, intrapartum, postpartum and neonatal complications. Our aim in our study is to investigate steroid hormone profile tests and oxidative stress parameters in maternal and umbilical cord blood of obese and non-obese pregnant women. Material-Method: One serum and one whole blood samples were taken from thirty obese and thirty-five non-obese pregnants' maternal and cord blood. Maternal blood of mothers was taken when admitted for delivery, and cord blood was taken immediately after the birth of the fetus. Steroid hormone profile tests and oxidative stress parameters were studied in the obtained samples. Results: When we compared the cord blood results of obese and non-obese mothers; Disulfide µmol/L (p <0.001), Ischemia Modified Albumin ABSU (p =0.049), İndex 1 (p<0.001), İndex 2 (p<0.001), Catalase kU/L (p <0.001), Myeloperoxidase U/L (p=0.023), 17-Hydroxy Pregnenolone ng/ml (p=0.034), 17-Hydroxy Progesterone ng/ml (p< 0.001), 21-Deoxycortisol ng/ml (p<0.001), Androstenedione ng/ml (p=0.042), Corticostreone ng/ml (p=0.045), Estrone ng/ml (p=0.037), Aldosterone ng/ml (p<0.001) were higher in obese mothers' cord blood; Albumin g/dL (p =0.003), İndeks 3 (p<0.001) ve Dihydrotestosterone ng/ml (p=0.012) were higher in non-obese mothers' cord blood. When we compared the maternal blood results of obese and non-obese mothers; İndex 1 (p<0.001), İndex 2 (p<0.001), Catalase kU/L (p=0.001), Ceruloplasmine U/L (p<0.001), 11- Deoxyicorticosterone ng/ml (p= 0.011), 11-Deoxyicortisol ng/ml (p=0.039), 17-Hydroxy Progesterone ng/ml (p<0.001), 21-Deoxycortisol ng/ml (p<0.001), Androstenedione ng/ml (p=0.002), Corticosterone ng/ml (p=0.019), Pregnenolone ng/ml (p=0.007), Progestorone ng/ml (p=0.026), Aldosterone ng/ml (p<0.001) were higher in obese mothers' maternal blood; İndex 3 (p<0.001) and Dihydrotestosterone ng/ml (p<0.001) were higher in non-obese mothers' maternal blood. Conclusion: In this study, steroid hormone profile tests and oxidative stress parameters were investigated in maternal and umbilical cord blood of obese and non- vii obese pregnant women. The results we obtained from the maternal and cord blood of obese and non-obese mothers show that obesity has a role in oxidative stress and affects steroid hormone levels. We recommend preventing obesity for maternal and infant health. Key Words: Steroid Hormone, Oxidative Stress, Pregnancy, Maternal Obesity, Umbilical Cord Blood
