Abstract (EN)

Presbycusis is a term that refers to hearing loss due to aging. Hearing loss that occurs in old age usually manifests itself in the form of difficulty in perceiving high-frequency sounds and a decrease in speech intelligibility. Presbycusis, which usually occurs after the age of 60, is caused by genetic factors as well as hearing system changes due to aging. During the aging process, hair cells in the cochlea part of the inner ear can become damaged over time. This damage can prevent audio signals from being processed and transmitted correctly. The symptoms of presbycusis usually come on slowly. Hearing problems, such as difficulty in perceiving high-frequency sounds, difficulty in understanding speech, and the need to turn up the volume of communication devices, are common. There may also be psychosocial effects such as reduced social interactions, isolation, and depression. Presbycusis is classified as sensorineural, neural, strial and mechanical. This classification manifests itself on the audiogram as High Frequencies Steeply Sloping (YFAE), High Frequencies Genlty Sloping (YFHE), and Low Frequencies Genlty Sloping (DFHE) or flat configurations. Configuration and SF-36 quality of life scores of 200 presbycusis patients included in the study were obtained. 44% (88) of the patients were female and 56% (112) were male. The mean age of female patients was calculated as 71.38 8.98, and the mean age of male patients as 71.87 9.04. Male patients were shown to have greater health ratings in other categories, despite the fact that their Mental Health scores were relatively similar for both genders of patients. There is a moderate correlation between the degree of hearing loss and social functioning. The type of presbycusis that most affects the quality of life is neural presbycusis. This research has demonstrated a correlation between hearing loss and conditions like anxiety, depression, low life satisfaction, and social isolation.
