Stress resources, self-efficacy, type A personality and job satisfaction among teachers

There are many variables indicating teachers' job satisfaction. The main purpose of this study is to examine the relations among self-efficacy, stress resources, Type A personality and job satisfaction. In the study the relationships between teachers' job satisfaction and variables such as age, gender, marital status, years of service, administration, working at public and private institutions are also investigated. The research group, in the academic year 2012-2013, is composed of 689 teachers working at public and private educational institutions in Trabzon (Female=346, Male=343). In the collection of data Personal Information Form, Job Satisfaction, Stress Resources and Public Perception of Self-Efficacy scales were used. For data analysis, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PMÇKK), Multiple Linear Regression, Independent t-test and ANOVA were used. Research results have shown that resources of stress, self-efficacy and Type A personality predict teachers' job satisfaction significantly. It has been found that male teachers' job satisfaction scores are higher in terms of physical conditions. Teachers' job satisfaction scores do not differ according to marital status. Teachers' job satisfaction scores working at private education institutions were higher than job satisfaction scores of teachers working at formal education institutions. Teachers having in administrative duties, in terms of operational policies, individual factors and interpersonal relationships reach more satisfaction than the teachers who do not have administrative duties. It has been determined that there is a significant difference in, teachers job satisfaction scores according to socio-economic status in terms of interpersonal relationships, operational policies and individual factors. Some of the results are parallel to the findings of the literature whereas some are different. This is discussed in the findings of the literature.
