Abstract (EN)

The smallest unit of society is the family. The family emerges as a result of the marriage of two people by uniting their lives. There are some factors that ensure that marriages can proceed in a healthy and harmonious way. One of them is self-esteem. The level of self-esteem of individuals affects the way they perceive their spouses and themselves, and accordingly their expectations from each other in the relationship and the meaning they attribute to their marriage. In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between self-esteem and the meaning they attribute to marriage among married teachers aged 30-40. Data were collected online with the voluntary participation of a total of 307 teachers (171 women and 136 men) between the ages of 30-40 working in Adana city centre. ''Personal Information Form'', ''Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale'' and ''Scale of Meaning Attributed to Marriage'' were applied to the teachers participating in the study. The results were analysed using SPSS software. As a result of the research, a positive and significant relationship was found between the self-esteem levels of married teachers aged 30-40 working in Adana city centre and the meaning they attributed to marriage. It was determined that there was a positive and significant relationship between the scores obtained from the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and the Positive Meaning Attributed to Marriage sub-dimension scores. It was concluded that there was a negative and significant relationship between the scores obtained from the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and the Negative Meaning Attributed to Marriage sub-dimension scores. It can be said that as the self-esteem scores of married teachers aged 30-40 working in Adana city centre increase, the positive meaning attributed to marriage increases and the negative meaning decreases. In addition, as a result of the study, it was concluded that some demographic variables affect the relationship between self-esteem levels and the meaning attributed to marriage. The findings obtained as a result of the collected data were discussed within the framework of the relevant literature and suggestions were made for future studies
