The relationship between teachers' performance and perceptions regarding school managers' toxic leadership behavior

This research was structured in a relational scanning design in order to examine whether the relationship between teachers' perceptions of school administrators' toxic leadership behaviors and their performance varies according to age, marital status, gender and branch. The population of the research consists of 1471 teachers working in official primary and secondary schools in Siirt in the 2020-2021 academic year. Random sampling method was used in the sample selection process of the study. Data were collected from 177 male and 178 female teachers who volunteered to participate in the research by random sampling. Organizational Performance Scale (Wharton County Junior College, 2000; Balcı, Öztürk, Polatcan, Saylık, Bil, 2016) and Toxic Leadership Scale (Güner, Yıldız, & Çelebi, 2015) were used in the research. In the study, kurtosis, skewness, mean and median parameters were examined to determine the distribution, and it was concluded that the data met the normality criteria. Within the research, reliability analysis, frequency tables, independent sample test, ANOVA and correlation analyzes were applied. In the study, a highly negative and significant relationship was found between school administrators' toxic leadership levels and teachers' organizational performance levels. Accordingly, as the toxic leadership behaviors of school administrators decrease, the organizational performance of teachers increases.
