Examining the relationship between organizationalgossip and organizational burnout level of teachers'

The aim of this research is to determine the teachers' views on the functions of organizational gossip in their schools and their burnout levels and to reveal the relationship between them. Correlational survey model was used in the study, data were collected via two scales. The universe of study consists of 7600 teachers serving in Batman province in the 2019-2020 academic year. The sample of study consists of 340 teachers selected by random method from this universe. The research data were collected using the Organizational Gossip Scale developed by Han and Dağlı (2018) and the Maslach Burnout Scale developed by Maslach and Jackson (1981) and adapted into Turkish by İnce and Şahin (2015). The statistical package program was used to analyze the data. For statistical analysis of data frequency and percentage, average, standart deviation, t-Test, ANOVA test and analyze of Pearson correlation used in this research. Average opinions related to dimensions of teachers' organizational gossip was determined in the dimension of having information I partly agree, in the developing relations dimension I disagree and in the organizational harm dimension I agree. Teachers' emotional burnout level is low, depersonalization level is very low, level of personal accomplishment sense is high, and general burnout level is at a medium level. The level of teachers' organizational burnout has no significant difference in all other variables except gender and employment. The depersoalization level of male teachers is higher than that of female teachers' and the emotional burnout level of contract teachers is lower than that of regular teachers. A connection such as low level positive correlation with the dimension of having information, a very low level positive correlation with the dimension of developing relationships and a very low level positive correlation with the organizational harm dimension was determined between the sub-dimensions of organizational gossip and burnout levels of teachers.
