The Effect of Parents' Finding and Supporting Status, Sociodemographic and Processing Characteristics on Child's Pain Level in Intra-venous Intervention in School Age Children Yeditepe University Institute of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing, The Master Thesis. Istanbul. Introduction: For the purpose of diagnosis and treatment, the most common applications encountered by children are IV interventions (blood collection etc.). Painful procedures in an uninvolved environment can create fear in children. In addition to sociodemographic and procedural factors, the absence of the parent also affects the child's response to pain during painful procedures. Aim: This study is a cross-sectional descriptive study, conducted to determine the effects of socio-demographic characteristics of children and their parents on the characteristics of the child and their presence and support, and the level of pain in children at the time of intra venous intervention in 6-12 years old children. Materials and Method: The population of the study consisted of the children and their parents who applied to the blood collection center of a state hospital in Istanbul between September and December 2017. The sample consisted of 100 children and their parents aged 6-12 years, who applied on Wednesday and Friday between the same dates. The data were obtained with the "Wong Baker Faces Pain Assessment Scale " and "Introductory Information Form Applied to Children Between 6-12 Years During Painful Invasive Procedure". Data were evaluated in SPSS 22.0 program, determining statistical analyses descriptive statistical analyzes such as number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent t-test in group comparisons, mann whitney u testi, one-way anova, kruskal wallis variance analysis, chi-square test and It was evaluated with %95 trust interval, p<0.05 meaning level. Authority and ethics committee permissions were obtained. Results: More than half of the children participated in the study consisted of girls (56%) and 6-8 years (55%) the mean pain scores of girls were higher than males and the difference between them was statistically significant (p≤0.05), compared to age groups, the mean pain scores of the children in the 6-8 age group were higher but the difference between them was not statistically significant (p>0.05). During painful procedures, the pain scores of the children who were not present with their parents (SO = 58,21) were found to be higher than the children who were near the parent (SO = 49,45) and therefore the pain level was found to be high but the difference between the groups was not statistically significant (p>0,05). When the mean pain scores of the children were compared according to the behaviors of their parents, it was seen that there was a significant difference between the pain scores of the groups in terms of some behaviors (p<0.05). When the mean pain point average of the children according to the behavior of parents distracting during the procedure, the difference between them was found statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusion and Recommendations: During the painful medical procedure, it was found that there was a difference between the mean scores of the parents according to the way the parents were with their children and the support of the children. It is recommended that parents should be informed about the situation where parents force their children (threatening, saying embarrassing words and keeping the child firmly) to do the operation during venous blood collection, and that the parents should be informed about this problem and the same study should be repeated in different age groups and with different pain scales.
