A research on the ethical leadership level of school principals (Uşak city sample)

This resarch has been carried out in order to reveal the ethical leadership levels of school principals work in public primary schools in Uşak. With this resarch, it has been tried to reveal whether there is a difference in terms of gender, educational background, the number of teachers at school, professional and friendship relation level variables between teacher and school principal in views of teachers about the ethical leadership behaviour levels of primary school principals.Target population of the study consists of teachers work in all the public primary schools within the boundaries of Uşak Province. In the area of resarch, there are 175 public primary schools. 1669 teachers work in these public primary schools. The number of teacher for sample on behalf of the resarch area is 275. " Personal Data Form" developed by thesis advisor and "Ethical Leadership Scale" developed by Yılmaz (2005) were applied to participants who formed the sample. The results obtained were solved by SPSS packaged software.T-test was applied to reveal whether views of teachers show a significant difference in terms of gender, educational background concerning Ethical Leadership levels of primary school principals. One way Anova test was applied to determine whether views of teachers show a significant difference in terms of the number of teachers at school and Professional and friendship level variable with the principal concerning Ethical Leadership Behaviour levels of primary school principals.Following the research, Ethical Leadership Levels of primary school principals ensued the level "overmuch". This result shows that school principals are in a good condition in terms of Ethical Leadership Behaviours. In views of teachers concerning Ethical Leadership Levels of school principals, there is no significant difference in terms of gender and educational background variables. But, it is determined to differ in terms of the number of teachers at school and Professional and friendship relationships variables with school principals.Key Words: Ethical Leadership, Teachers in Primary Schools, School Principals
