Abstract (EN)

XI ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to discern the perception of the teachers about the school directors' effectiveness and to identify the level of the teachers' participation in school management and their wishes to participate in decision making. 409 teachers working at 19 primary schools, 8 vocational high schools, 3 Anatolian Lycee's, 3 private high schools, 7 general high schools in the province of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality constitute the sample for the research. "Washington Principal Evaluation Inventary" and participation in Decision-Making Scale were used to collect the data for the research. T-Test and One- Way Variance Analysis have been used to discern the difference among the groups. When in some situations the difference was significant based on One- Way Variance Analysis, Scheffe Test has been used to find out its reason. The findings of the research are as follows: 1. Teachers point out that they participate in decision-making in their schools "rarely" and they would like to participate "'much more" 2. Teachers participate "little" in management and "rarely''' in educational decision making fields and would like to participate "much more'" 3. A significant difference has been determined among the teachers' participation and their wishes to participate in decision-making and their personal characteristics. 4. Teachers, find their school directors "usually" effective. 5. Teachers find their school directors in a dimension of, conceptual and human skills "sometimes" and technical skills "usually" effective. 6. A significant difference has been determined between the teachers' perception concerning their school directors' conceptual, technical, human skills and their personal characteristics. 7. It has been determined that the more the school director is efficient the more the teachers participate in decision-making in their schools and they would like to participate.
