Examination of the relationship between the empowering leadership behaviors of school principles and the professional commitment of teachers

With this research, it was aimed to determine the relationship between school principals' empowering leadership behaviors and teachers' professional commitment according to teacher perceptions. The universe of the research, in which the relational survey model was used, consists of 1905 teachers working in primary, secondary and high school education institutions in the city center of Siirt in the 2021-2022 academic year. In the study, in which stratified sampling method was used, the sample number was determined as 406 teachers. In the research; "Empowering Leadership Behaviors Scale" and "Professional Commitment Scale" were used. In the analysis of the obtained data; standard deviation, arithmetic mean, frequency and percentage, ANOVA test, independent sample t-test, multiple linear regression analysis and Pearson correlation analysis methods were used. According to the research results; In line with the perceptions of the participants, it was determined that the school principals' empowering leadership behaviors and professional commitment were at a "high level". Teachers' perceptions of the sub-dimensions of empowering leadership and the sub-dimensions of the professional commitment scale were found to be "high". According to the correlation analysis; It was determined that there is a moderate and positive significant relationship between school principals' empowering leadership behaviors and teachers' professional commitment. According to the regression analysis; school principals' empowering leadership behaviors were found to be a significant predictor of teacher's professional commitment.
