Determining the content of social studies education for the preschool period

The purpose of this research; in order to determine the content of social studies education in the preschool period, it is to determine the opinions of academics working in the field of preschool education, classroom education and social studies education and preschool, classroom education and social studies teachers on the subject. This research was conducted in the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 academic year with pre-school, classroom education and social studies teachers affiliated with the Ministry of Education and faculty members working in the preschool education, classroom education and social studies education departments at various state universities. The research was conducted with a total of 30 participants. In this research, the Delphi technique, which uses both qualitative and quantitative methods together, was used. The data collection tools used in the research are Delphi surveys prepared by the researcher. The data obtained was subjected to both qualitative and quantitative analysis methods. While content analysis was performed in the first Delphi survey, statistical analysis was performed with the SPSS 22 package data program in the second and third Delphi survey. As a result of the research, in line with the answers of the participants, for social studies education in the preschool period,the purpose, scope, courses related to the teacher training program, content, concept, discipline, discipline preference, achievements, values, methods and techniques, subjects, cultural elements, classroom environment, materials, certain days and weeks, contents belonging to the categories of social studies approaches and reasons for choosing the social studies approach were determined. This result is important in terms of revealing the necessity of social studies education in the preschool period. In this regard, it is recommended that studies be carried out to increase awareness about social studies education in the preschool period.
