Abstract (EN)

This research was made to identify the behavior changing strategies of preschool teachers. In the study which is developed as a scan model and a descriptive research; teacher opinions were investigated about the clasroom management approaches of preschool teachers, their behaviors and attitudes towards the children who show negative behavior, and teachers? views regarding the unwanted behavior they encounter in the classroom and the techniques used in order to prevent the undesirable behavior. An effort has been shown in order to determine if teachers? opinions are differentiated with regard to various different parameters. The sample of my survey is comprised of 100 pre-school teachers who are working at the educational institutions in the central district of Çanakkale, Biga, and Ezine. The data of the survey were obtained through "The Level of Preschool Teachers? Classroom Management Skills and Their Relations with Different Variables? of Güven and Cevher (2005), `?Discipline Models Which are Supposed to Prevent the Undesired Behaviors of the Students in the Classroom?? of Pala (2005), and the questionnaire prepared via the articles collected from the book ?Ministry of Education ? 2006 Preschool Education Programme? as well as the other articles collected by the researcher. "Unidirectional variance analysis of (ANOVA-F test)" and "t test" have been used for data analysis.According to the results of survey, it is determined that the teachers have adopted "the collaborative management approach?, and ?the approach which attributes the classroom management approach to the personality traits of the teacher?. For those children who show the signs of negative behavior, teachers usually preferred the approach which reflected the views such as ?teachers should be patient and lenient; they should approach the children in an affectionate, tolerant manner,?; and the approach which reflected the views such as ?effort should be made in order to ensure that the child is adopted by the other children, the sense of sharing should be acquired and the positive attributes should be featured.? Teachers have identified ?the offensive and disrespectful behaviors? as the most frequently encountered unwanted behaviors in the classroom. Among the several techniques, they have used the "dialoguing/conversation" and the ?setting simple and understandable classroom rules? techniques the most in order to prevent the undesired behaviors.Key Words: Classroom Management, Behavior Modification, Unwanted Behavior of Students
