Analysing the self - concept of the preschool children aged 5 - 6 in the context of their mothers' life satisfaction

SUMMARYThe aim of this survey is to analyze the relationship between students? self- concept age 5-6 who attend the preschool and their mother?s life satisfaction and to examine if the students? self ?concepts differentiate according to demographic characteristics. With this aim, students? self- concepts is analyzed in terms of their mothers? life experince and various substantive variants (gender, age, number of siblings, birth order, mother's education level, father?s education level and mother?s age) . The study group of this survey in the way of relational model consists of a total amount of 115 students and their mothers who attend public and private pre-school education institutions in academic year 2011-2012. In analysis of data , Pearson Correlation Coefficient, independent group t test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis H test techniques have been used.The results of the research show that there is a linear but non-significant relationship between the age of 5-6 years students? self-concepts and mothers? life satisfaction. In addtion, maternal acceptance levels ` change according to the independent variables of the children, the age and gender variables, and significant differences in self ?concepts depending on the type of school have been observed. However, it has been concluded that according to the mother's age, number of siblings, birth order, mother's education level and education level of parents , self- concepts of children have not been differentiated. Finally, the results obtained within the research findings have been discussed and various suggestions have been made in light of the findings.
