Expectations and problems of school psychological advisorswith school administrator, teacher and parents

The aim of this research is to examine in detail the mutual expectations and problems of school counselors with school administrators, teachers and parents. After examining the expectations and problems from the point of view of the psychological counselors, the expectations and problems from the point of view of school administrators, teachers and parents were examined and compared, and a study was conducted with the aim of increasing the cooperation with the solution proposals, making the guidance services more healthy and efficient and increasing the motivation of the psychological counselors. Qualitative research method was used in the research. The sample of the study was determined by homogeneous sampling, which is one of the purposeful sampling methods. The study group of the research consists of 20 people from 4 different groups, including psychological counselors, school administrators, teachers and parents who have students in schools, working in the Merzifon district of Amasya in the 2022/2023 academic year. As a data collection tool in the research, a semi-structured interview form with 12 open-ended questions from 3 open-ended questions in 4 different groups and 4 open-ended questions asked to school administrators, teachers and parents was used. Interviews with the participants took place face to face. Participation in the interviews was done on a voluntary basis and they were asked to answer the questions sincerely and sincerely. Each interview lasted an average of 20-30 minutes. The data obtained as a result of the studies were analyzed from a descriptive point of view. When the data is analyzed as a result of the research, it is seen that although psychological counselors have different expectations from school administrators, teachers and parents, psychological counselors care about communication and cooperation and think that negative perspectives and prejudices should be changed. The expectations of school administrators from psychological counselors are providing information exchange about students, preparation and implementation of guidance program, effective communication and cooperation with class counselors, continuous personal development of psychological counselors, psychological counselors producing solutions to problems and contributing to school success. is seen. Teachers' expectations from psychological counselors; acting in cooperation, exchanging ideas about students and being guided by psychological counselors, being effective listeners and narrators of psychological counselors, contributing to academic success and school environment. Parents' expectations from psychological counselors; providing psychological help when needed, providing correct guidance for students, and providing information for parents and students. When the data in which the participants expressed mutual problems are examined; In general, the problems between psychological counselors and school administrators, teachers and parents, lack of communication, failure to fulfill their duties and responsibilities, prejudice and negative attitudes towards counselors are the problems expressed by the participants. Problems of school administrators with psychological counselors; It is seen that the lack of clarity in the job description and role confusion, the lack of information about the school administration's guidance services and different perspectives. Teachers' problems with psychological counselors; lack of communication, lack of feedback, and excessive forms and paperwork. Parents' problems with psychological counselors; They expressed it as lack of communication, lack of awareness of the family, and parents' having wrong perceptions about their children. In the study, the mutual expectations and problems of school counselors, school administrators, teachers and parents were evaluated and analyzed, and various solutions were proposed to solve the problems by increasing cooperation.
