The choroidal evaluation of changes ocular toxoplasmosis in patients spectral domain optical coherence tomography

Abstract (EN)

Purpose: We aimed to examine the coroid changes in ocular toxoplasmozis (OT) patients with spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) using the enhanced depth imaging (EDI) mode. Materials-Method: The clinical and laboratory data and SD-OCT images of patients with OT admitted to Dicle University Ophthalmology Department between March 2013-December 2013 were examined retrospectively.. The demographic properties, visual acuity measurements in terms of logMAR, intraocular pressure, biomicroscopical findings in anterior segment examination and fundus examination after dilatation were noted. The patients were categorized into three groups: active toxochorioretinitis (TCR), inactive TCR and healthy controls. EDI-OCT images of lesions and coroids in the subfoveal region were obtained in patients with active and inactive TCR; while only the EDI-OCT images of coroids in subfoveal region were obtained in the control group.. Results: A total of 54 patients were evaluated including 20 patients in the control group (7 male,13 wome), 10 patients in active TCR group (8 women,2 male) and 24 patients in inactive TCR group (16 women,8 male) . The study groups were comperable in terms of age, gender and GİB (p=0,862 p=0,682 p=0,841). Paired comparisons were performed between groups. The best corrected visual acuities BCVA (logMAR) value was significant lower in active TCR group compared to controls (p=0,003). The BCVA (logMAR) value (p=0,001) and average coroid thickness in the subfoveal region were significantly lower in the inactive TCR group compared to controls. In comparison of active and inactive OT groups, there found an increase in average coroid thickness in lesion region (p=0,001). Conclusions: Monitoring of coroid is possible by EDI technique of SD-OCT We evaluated coroid changes in OT patients with active and inactive TCR and thought that EDI-OCT is an easily applicable, beneficial and objective method in examining OT.
