Abstract (EN)

The aim of the present study was to investigate the predictive roles of self-focused constructs such as private-self-consciousness, need-for-absolute-truth and mindfulness on the ontological well-being and the emotional well-being. The sample of the study is comprised of 258 participants living in Istanbul, Eskişehir and Bursa, whose ages range between 18 and 55. Demographics Information Sheet, Self-Consciousness Scale (private self-consciousness, public self-consciousness), Need-for-Absolute-Truth Scale (search-for-the-real-self, search for the reasons of behaviours ), Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, Ontological Well-Being Scale (nothingness, hope, regret, activation) and Emotional Well-Being Scale (positive emotinal well being, negative emotional well being) were used as study measures. Pearson Correlation Analysis was applied to examine the relationship between constructs. Then, Multiple Hierarchical Regression Analysis was used to ascertain the significance of certain predictors of ontological well being and emotional well being. The findings of the study showed the significant predictors are respectively discovered: search-for-the-real-self and mindfulness, were the significant predictors of the nothingness; private self-consciousness is the significant predictor of the hope; search-for-the-real-self and private-self-consciousness were the significant predictors of the regret; and private-self-consciousness is the significant predictor of the activation. Moreover, search-for-the-real-self, private-self-consciousness and mindfulness are the meaningful predictors of the positive-emotional well being. The implications of the findings were discussed in the light of the literature and suggestions for future research were provided. Key Words: Ontological well-being, Emotional well-being, Private-self-consciousness, Absolute need for truth, Mindfulness.
