The effect of orff education on primary school second stage students' rhythm perception and music lesson success

Music education is a branch of education that aims to increase the knowledge of individuals in the field of music and to improve their skills in a certain process. This process includes various lanes such as melody, rhythm, harmony, musical hearing, music theory, composition and performance. Formal and widespread music education is a long and gradual process. When the right methods and techniques are used, it can be predicted that students will be able to realize their shortcomings more easily and make progress as students' progress step by step. In this training process to develop desired behaviors, methods and techniques specific to music education are used. One of these methods, the Orff method, is also known as a music education approach developed by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman. It is known that Orff training is a catchy method that uses various elements such as movement, speaking, singing, playing instruments and improvisation. In this study, it is thought that the Orff method will contribute to music education because it is a comprehensive approach that supports the creative potential of children in music education. It is compatible with the general objectives and fundamentals of the method, and it is aimed to create an effective learning environment especially for primary school second-level students, to improve children's perception of rhythm and to be successful in music lessons. In the 5-week period, after the traditional music education applied to the control group and the music education supported by the Orff method applied to the experimental group, the Rhythm Perception Test and Music Lesson Achievement Test, which were prepared by taking expert opinion, were applied to the groups and the results were analyzed. As a result of these analyzes, it was observed that the experimental group was more successful than the control group in the Rhythm Perception Test and Music Lesson Achievement Tests applied to the groups.
