Organ donation and transplant questionnaire: A methodological study

Objectives: The aim of this research is to adapt the Organ Donation and Transplant Questionnaire into Turkish, which was developed by Singh et al in 2018, which determines the thoughts and attitudes towards organ donation and transplantation. Materials and Methods: This methodological study was conducted in the province of Hatay. The sample consisted of health personnel working in Hatay State Hospital and friends who were not health professionals. 390 over 18 years of age who volunteered to participate in the study were included (n=390). The data of the study were collected with the "Demographic Information Form", "Knowledge Level Form" and "Organ Donation and Transplant Questionnaire". Data analysis were used the SPSS and Lisrel software. Results: The mean age of the research sample was 31.84±10.17 (Min:18-Max:68 Median:30); The rate of health personnel is 39.2%, while the rate of other professions is 60.8%. The rate of those registered as organ donors is 10.8%. In this study, it was determined that there were 4 factors with an eigenvalue above 1 for the original scale form with 22 items and their contribution to the total variance was 63.510%. In the analyzes performed, the Cronbach's alpha coefficients of the sub-dimensions of the Organ Donation and Transplant Questionnaire were 0.879, respectively; 0.878; 0.817; 0.914; The total scale Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated as 0.871. For the total scale score, the difference between health personnel (63.39±10.41) and non-health workers (57.26±12.45) was found to be statistically significant (p=0.000). Conclusion: Organ Donation and Transplant Questionnaire is valid and reliable tool to use in Turkish. But it is recommended that confirmatory factor analysis on larger sample may be useful for the generalizability.
