Abstract (EN)

This study investigates how the burnout syndrome experienced by public and private sector workers is effected by their individual characteristics. In addition to identifying the degree of effectiveness of each work-place stressor on the workers, it is aimed to determine how the workers' job satisfaction changes according to their individual characteristics. The study examines how independent variables such as position at work place, tenure of office, age, sex, marital status, level of education, number of children, whether their spouse is working or not, and level of income effect burnout levels at three dimensions (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment). The relation between job satisfaction and the above mentioned independent variables is studied with the aim of determining the degree of effectiveness of work-place stressors. A public enterprise and a private sector establishment formed the base of the study. 167 workers from the public enterprise voluntarily participated in the study. Out of the total 98 workers of the private sector establishment, 84 voluntarily answered the questions. For obtaining research data and gathering data on "burnout syndrome", one of the dependent variables, a Maslach Burnout Inventory which comprised of 22 questions was used. "Job-satisfaction scale" was utilized for obtaining job-satisfaction scores and "stressors scale" was utilized for determining job stressors. For gathering personal information of the workers, a "demographic" scale developed by the researcher was utilized. For statistical a nalysis of the data which was obtained as a result of the study, version 10.0 of the SPSS software was utilized. When analyzing the data; cross table results, non-parametric Mann-Whitney test and Kruskall Wallis multiple comparison test were utilized. Correlation values were utilized for some comparisons. The study accepted 0.05 for the upper limit of significance level.
