Attitudes of secondary school students to physical education lessons (The example of Afyonkarahisar province)

This research aims to determine the attitudes of secondary school students to Physical Education lessons and to analyze the differences among the attitudes of secondary school students to Physical Education lessons related to their personal characteristics. The sample group of the research is made up of 500 students at 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th classes randomly who are presently studying at secondary institutions in the centre of Afyonkarahisar. Study used a questionnaire consisting of two parts. ?SPSS 14.01 for Windows? was used in analysing the gained data. Explanatory factor analysis was performed for the structure validity of Physical Education lesson attitude scale which is present in the survey. The convenience of the data to factor analysis was evaluated via Bartlet test so the significant value was found as p<0,001, and that of the sample size was evaluated via Keiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test and adequacy value was found as 0,960. On the other hand, Cronbach?s Alpha parameter was calculated as 0,963 for the consistency of the scale.As a result of research;1-It was confirmed that the attitudes of students to Physical Education lessons differ from each other due to variants like gender, playing in school teams, the sports background of the family and spending out-of-school spare time doing exercises and sports.2-According to the properties as a number of secondary school students? siblings, monthly income, parents? jobs etc., no significant difference was found between the attitudes of secondary school students for physical education.3-In general, ıt has been observed that secondary school students? attitudes for the lesson of physical education were positive.With this study, different pieces of advice have been given in order to change negative manners into positive ones and also it has been aimed to shape other studies.
