Airbnb as a transition to collaborative consumption: Collaborative consumption variables, satisfaction and repurchase intention

The new communication platforms that emerged with the developing technology have caused the consumption habits to change. Developments in information and communication technologies enable people to consume goods and services through online platforms. The sharing economy and collaborative consumption platforms, which are about mutual or unilateral sharing of products and services, are quite popular, and increasing. As the number of such platforms which are predicted as the economic system and consumption movement of the future increases, they become the subject of academic research. The aim of this research is to examine the effect of collaborative consumption variables on consumer satisfaction and repurchase. The outcomes of research are aimed to be a guidance for future studies and for new platforms to be established. In this context, Airbnb, which is a collaborative consumption platform, is analyzed considering it as an accommodation and an experience provision application. The relationship of the variables of Airbnb, such as trust, price, satisfaction of being unique and local; with repurchase was assessed. As a result of the research, it has been observed that trust, price, satisfaction of being unique and local, and the satisfaction provided by collaborative consumption are effective in repurchasing. It has been concluded that the sharing platforms are trusted by consumers, financially beneficial and consumers are satisfied with new experiences.
