Investigation on the participation of teachers appointed i̇n secondary education organisations in school management

The aim of this study is to investigate the participation of teachers appointed in secondary education organisations in school management. Throughout the study, mixed method has been used as the investigation method. Scanning method, which is one of the quantitative methods, has been used in order to investigate the quantitative data. The structured interview technique has been used for the qualitative data and evaluated with content analysis. The population covers the city of Istanbul while the sample covers 74 managers and 401 teachers within the neighbourhood of Bahçelievler. In order to support the quantitative data, an investigation process has been carried out with 10 managers and 10 teachers by using the structured interview form. In order to determine the level of participation in school management, personal information form and the scale of participation in school management which had been developed by UYAR (2007) have been used. The general reliability of the scale has been found a=0,915 which is highly reliable. After the data of the investigation has been collected, it has been analysed by means of SPSS 21 package. For the comparison of the quantitative data; t-test for the difference between two groups; One Way Anova test for the intergroup comparison of the parameters on the condition of more than two groups; and for the determination of the group that causes discrepancy, Tukey Post Hoc test have been used. At the end of the study, when the average of the level of participation of teachers in school management is investigated; it is seen that the teachers approve of the sentence of "Participation in the management within the school they work" as medium; "The opinion regarding the beneficiancy of participation in management" as high, "The factors that lower the participation" as low and "The measures that increase the participation" as high. As it is seen, within the area of the sample group, teachers provide a medium level of participation in the management. When the differences regarding the comparison of teachers that take place in the study have been investigated; as the result of the one-way analysis of variance that has been carried out in order to determine whether or not the teachers' opinion points vary significantly according to the title factor of parameters; the difference among the group averages has been found statistically significant. However, no significant difference has been found according to the parameters of gender and the university the teachers graduated from. Teachers should be provided with efficient participation in school management in order to develop democratic school culture, increase the academic, social and sportive success in school, increase their work satisfaction and take more responsibilities.
