The relationship between visionary leadership behaviours of high school principals and their behaviours towards teachers' proffessional development

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between visionary leadership skills of high school principals and their behaviours towards teachers' proffessional development. The population of the study consists of teachers working in Osmangazi, Yıldırım and Nilüfer district of Bursa Province. There are 8696 teachers in the population of the study. The sample consists of 453 teachers. Proportional sampling was used to form sample of the study. The leadership questionnaire was developed by Sabancı's ( 2007) publication entitled " The Visionary Leadership Proficiency Questionnaire of School Principals" and the questionnaire was developed by İnceler's (2005) publication entitled "Professional Development Behavior Questionnaire" were used. The model of research is relational scanning model. In order to reveal the demographic information of the participants by using SPSS ; frequency and percentage analyzes were performed on the data.The t-test and ANOVA analyzes were used to determine whether the participants' perceptions differ significantly according to different variables.Correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between school principals' visionary leadership and professional development behaviors;simple linear regression analysis was used to determine the predictive level of visionary leadership on professional development behaviors. In results of study, it is seen that the according to the oppinions visionary leadership characterics and professional development behaviors of high school principals' are high level. There is a significant difference in favor of manegers according to the task variable, but no significant difference was found for other variables. A high positive relationship was found between visionary leadership and Professional development beheaviors. Additionally, according to simple linear regression analysis, it was concluded that visionary leadership is a significant predictor of professional development behaviors.
